Summary

The companies are composed of people, whose interactions conform the basis of all business activity. The Human Resources department deals with the people that work in a company. One of the objectives of the Human Resources department is to find the right people for working in the company. For this purpose, they carry out what is called the ‘hiring process’ or ‘recruitment process’. As people have different characters and different interests, in a company there is always the possibility of conflicts between the workers or between the workers and the management. To deal with conflicts there are some tools, like the trade unions, which were created to solve conflicts between the workers and the management, but sometimes conflicts with workmates must be solved by using negotiation.

On the other hand, there are the people who are looking for a job. These people follow what is called the ‘job-searching process’, which are the activities destined to find a job. These activities include the elaboration of the curriculum vitae, the accompanying cover letter and, possibly, the job interview. Apart from the work experience and qualifications, important aspects in the job-searching process are the accuracy in the writing of the curriculum vitae and the cover letter an, in the job interview, a control over our body language.

Sometimes people may wish to find a job in another country, either because they cannot find a job in their own country or because that just want a change of life. Working abroad, however, is not an easy task because it requires a lot of time and patience.

Looking for a job and moving to another country usually generates a lot of written documents, like CVs, cover letters, inquiry letters, forms, etc. Translating a text may become an important skill. Although it might seem easy to translate a text with the use of an automatic translator, we must be very careful to revise and correct the mistakes that the programme will inevitably generate.

Summarizing a text may also be an important skill. Summarizing means extracting the most important information of a text and discarding the secondary information. Summaries contribute to improve the reading skills, which might be useful when we have to read lots of pages in English, but they can also serve to reproduce information from texts that we cannot copy literally for copyright reasons.
